THE BOONE COUNTY PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION meets the last Monday of each month. Meetings commence a 7:00 PM and are held in the first floor conference room of the Boone County Courthouse.
The Planning and Zoning Commission is comprised of nine (9) citizen volunteers. They are appointed by the Boone County Board of Supervisors to a three (3)-year term. Like the Board of Supervisors, the Planning and Zoning Commission has both policy development responsibilities and policy application responsibilities. However, their decision-making role is not legally-binding. Final decisions rest with the Board of Supervisor and Board of Adjustment on most land use issues. The Commission has an ‘Advisory’ function and studies issues, oversees the preparation of plans and ordinances, and reviews and advises on development issues. They act as an impartial body. Before adopting or amending the official zoning map or zoning text, the Planning and Zoning Commission provides advice of such adoptions or revisions. The Commission is responsible for examining whether the zoning proposal is consistent with the goals and policies of Boone County’s adopted Comprehensive Plan.
BY-LAWS: The Planning and Zoning Commission operates under a set of rules or by-laws. These by-laws set forth in detail the procedures the commission must follow to conduct business in an orderly manner.
