One of the main topics that we spend a lot of time planning for is what kind of hazards affect us in Boone County and to what extent. Some of the hazards, by themselves may not be so bad but the result from that hazard will cause other hazards and just like dominoes, all of those hazards create a much bigger problem to deal with.
A wind storm can cause power outages and all of the problems related to electrical including fires, electrocutions, problems with medical conditions that have to have electricity to stay home, food spoilage if loss is prolonged and many others, It can cause transportation issues because of tree limbs on the roads which not only causes a cleanup but may cause problems with emergency services getting to calls. It can cause damages that may leave people homeless. I think you get the picture. Electrical outages, transportation and property damage are all hazards by themselves.
Below are the top ten hazards that have been identified for Boone County. Frequency, likelihood of occurrence, area affected and all of the other hazards that may be affected by the primary hazard’s occurrence are all taken in account to produce this list.
