Establish the Don Williams Lake Watershed Project as a study in the joining of people and processes leading to ecological health, recreational enjoyment and Iowa’s agriculture for future generations.
The Committee, led by the Boone County Soil & Water Conservation District, received a two-year grant from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to undertake the development of a Watershed Improvement Plan for the Don Williams Lake Watershed. This planning grant utilized a “community-based planning” approach to raise awareness about the need to make improvements to ensure the long-term viability of the watershed.
Don Williams Lake Watershed Improvement Plan. The plan was developed over a two year period. It was completed in November of 2011 and submitted to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. The IDNR forwarded it to the United States Enviornmental Protection Agency for review and approval. The plan was formally approved by the USEPA on January 12, 2012.
