KEEP BOONE COUNTY BEAUTIFUL
DRAGOON RIVER ROMP
September 15, 2018
Due to recent and forecast rains, for safety reasons the 2018 Dragoon River Romp has been cancelled.
The mission of Keep Boone County Beautiful is to protect and preserve the beauty and quality of life through partnerships between citizens, business, neighborhoods and government and to continue to foster PRIDE in our County’s environment.
The Dragoon River Romp fosters our desire to educate our participants about the impact of illegal dumping. While results in the way of tonnages removed from the river and its banks is tracked and its impact is seen, the true story of our results comes from the participants themselves.
One of our local participants stated, “Apart from enjoying the day on the river, seeing another side of the County, and the camaraderie of the cleanup, I will continue to preach the message.”
The Dragoon River Romp reinforces individual’s commitment to protect the environment, raises awareness of proper waste disposal and watershed protection, and provides educational opportunities for participants and the public. Litter prevention is a difficult challenge faced by all of us.
The Dragoon River Romp is held each year as a recreational education event. Rivers contain Iowa's greatest remaining tracts of wildlife habitat. People enjoy water. Rivers are some of Iowa's best places for many types of recreation, from wildlife viewing and fishing to canoeing, kayaking, or tubing. This program leads participants in caring for our natural resources, while helping improve the quality of life in Boone County.
The goal of the Dragoon River Romp event is to develop and implement a successful river cleanup program with the ability to: attract other entities, recruit volunteers, and provide environmental and historical education to participants.
The event is planned to encompass both river-based and land-based cleanup teams. This provides additional opportunity for more volunteers to become involved. An educational aspect is always included in our Dragoon River Romp. This event reinforces our commitment to protecting the environment and raises awareness about relationships of proper solid waste disposal and watershed protection.
This event gives families with teenage children a chance to volunteer for a community event while enjoying the great outdoors and get a great physical workout while doing it. Younger children can also participate on the land based cleanup and enjoy walking trails and park areas while cleaning up the environment.
