Archived Election Details

Eligible Boone County voters within the city limits of Boone will have the opportunity to vote for Boone County Sheriff to fill vacancy and City of Boone At-Large City Council Member to fill vacancy at the same time. Those eligible voters outside of the city limits of Boone will have the opportunity to vote for Boone County Sherriff to fill vacancy

For this Special Election to be held on March 21st, 2023, voting centers will be available. Any registered voter of Boone County may vote at any one of the following places in this election:   

Boone County Courthouse – 201 State Street, Boone, IA 50036

Boone County Fairgrounds – 1601 Industrial Rd, Boone, IA 50036

Madrid Community Room – 303 S Water St, Madrid, IA 50156

Leonard Good Community Center – 114 SW 8th St, Ogden, IA 50212

Polling hours are from 7:00a.m. - 8:00p.m.


Voter Registration

The voter pre-registration deadline is Monday, March 6 at 5p.m.

New registrants after the deadline, including on Election Day, will follow the Election Day Registration procedures. Proof of identity and proof of residence will be required.

Absentee Voting

In-Person: Voting in the Auditor's Office begins Wednesday, March 1 and will be available during regular business hours until 4:30pm, on Monday, March 20.

By Mail: The first day that ballots will be mailed is Wednesday, March 1. The last day to request a mailed ballot is Monday, March 6, the original request must be received in the Auditor's Office by 5pm that day. On the request form, mark "Special" under type of election, and fill in the election date (3/21/2023).

Following election night unofficial results will be posted here. Results are unofficial until the Canvass of Votes takes place. The canvass will be held on Thursday, March 23 at 1p.m. Following the Canvass, Official results will also be posted here.
