Attention teens advancing to a minor school,  intermediate or full license
In order to keep you safe from the spread of COVID-19, the Iowa D.O.T. is offering you the option to get your intermediate or full license issued remotely. Have your parent or guardian complete the Remote Issuance Parent’s/Guardian’s Consent Form. After they process your completed form, a customer service representative will contact you during normal service center business hours (Tuesday-Saturday) using the phone number provided to begin the process. Please allow 5-7 business days for Driver & Identification Services to process.  Do NOT call Boone County Driver's License to check on the status of your application, as we will not have access to that information.  For more information, go to: https://iowadot.gov/mvd/driverslicense/under-18

The Drivers License department is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:15 PM.  Due to Covid-19, Driver's License will now be by appointment only.  To make an appointment, please call 515-433-0522 to schedule one.

No knowledge tests are administered after 3:30 PM.

Car drive tests are given on Tuesday and Thursday by appointment only. Due to Covid-19, we are currently suspending drive tests until further notice.

Motorcycle skills tests are given on Thursdays by appointment from 8:30 AM to 9:00 AM, weather permitting.  You must be in the office by 8:15 to get checked in before the test.  Helmet, long pants, & shoes that completely cover your feet are required during the motorcycle test!  Due to Covid-19, we are currently suspending skills tests until further notice.

We administer all CDL knowledge tests but we do not do any pretrip, skills, or road tests.

Please call us at 515-433-0522 to set up appointments.

Make sure your birth certificate and marriage certificates are certified from the state in which you were born/married.  Hospital birth certificates are not acceptable, and neither are the ones with your foot prints on them.

If you have been married more than once, you may be required to provided multiple marriage certificates.  Check your most recent marriage certificate.  If it has your maiden name listed somewhere on that, you will only need to provide that certificate.
